Move PDF tables into Excel.
Extract detected tables into an XLSX workbook, with a sheet for each PDF page.
Start for freeConvert PDF to Excel, shown as a simplified diagram
Converting a PDF to Excel extracts tables and text from each page of a PDF into an XLSX workbook, creating one worksheet per page, so tabular data becomes workable spreadsheet cells.
From a static report to cells you can actually work with
A table in a PDF looks like a table, but it isn’t one you can sort, sum, or filter. This conversion pulls the tabular data out of a PDF and lays it into real spreadsheet cells.
PDF Hammer processes the document page by page, so a multi-page PDF becomes a workbook with a matching number of sheets.
How it works
-
01
Upload your PDF
Files up to 50 MB are supported for this conversion.
-
02
PDF Hammer extracts each page
Detected tables are laid out in cells. Where no table is found on a page, the extracted page text is placed in the sheet instead.
-
03
Download and check the XLSX
Open the workbook and check dense layouts, merged cells, and irregular tables, which may need manual cleanup.
What this tool preserves and changes
What extraction produces
- One worksheet per PDF page.
- Detected tables laid out in spreadsheet cells.
- Extracted page text placed in the sheet when no table is detected on that page.
Where this fits best
- PDFs with clear, selectable tables and consistent columns convert most cleanly.
- Dense layouts, merged cells, and irregular tables may need manual cleanup afterward.
- This path does not include OCR for scanned tables, it extracts tables and text from PDFs with selectable content.
How this conversion is processed
This conversion uses PDF Hammer’s authenticated converter rather than running entirely in your browser. Your PDF is sent to the converter, processed in a temporary file, and the temporary file is removed after the XLSX is returned to you.
50 MB maximum file sizeFrequently asked questions
Does this tool work on scanned PDFs?
Not for table extraction. The current Excel path extracts tables and text from PDFs with selectable content rather than running OCR. Scanned tables are handled better by first converting the document with the PDF to Word tool.
Will the original spreadsheet formulas or formatting come back?
No. This extracts the data that’s visible in the PDF’s tables and text. It does not reconstruct formulas or original spreadsheet formatting, since a PDF does not contain that information.
What happens to a page without a table?
The extracted text from that page is placed directly into its worksheet, rather than being left blank.
Is my PDF processed in my browser for this conversion?
No. Word and Excel conversion send the PDF to PDF Hammer’s authenticated converter for processing in a temporary file, which is removed once your XLSX has been returned.
