Editing a PDF in PDF Hammer means changing existing selectable text as a best-effort overlay, or adding genuine interactive form fields such as text boxes and checkboxes, inside a page-first editor.
Fixing a line of text, or making a document fillable
Not every PDF change needs a full document suite. Often it’s one line of selectable text that’s wrong, or a form that needs an actual fillable field instead of a printed line to write on.
PDF Hammer’s editor works page by page, enlarging the page you’re working on so text is easy to read and click, with a dedicated inspector for the text you’ve selected.
How it works
-
01
Open the PDF in the editor
The page you’re working on is shown enlarged, so text and fields are easy to see and click.
-
02
Edit text or add a field
Select existing text to revise it in the inspector, or place a new text field or checkbox where you need one.
-
03
Export the edited copy
Your changes are applied to a new downloaded PDF. The original file is left alone.
What this tool preserves and changes
Two editing modes
- Edit selectable text: revise existing text as a best-effort overlay on the page.
- Add form fields: place genuine interactive PDF fields, such as text boxes and checkboxes, not just drawn labels.
- The editor tries to keep the color and font characteristics of the surrounding text where the PDF makes that information available.
Where this has limits
- Selectable-text replacement is a best-effort overlay, not a full rewrite of the PDF’s internal content.
- Complex backgrounds and intricate layouts may not edit cleanly.
- Scanned pages and handwriting are not supported by this text editor, and this editor does not perform OCR.
Processed in your browser
Editing runs locally in your browser for this tool. Changes are applied to a downloaded copy, your original file is untouched.
Frequently asked questions
Can I fill out an existing form field with this tool?
This tool is for editing existing selectable text and adding new form fields to a PDF. Filling in fields that already exist is a related but different task.
Does this tool perform OCR on scanned pages?
No. This editor works with selectable text and does not run OCR. Scanned pages and handwriting may not edit cleanly here.
Are the form fields I add real, fillable PDF fields?
Yes. Fields added through this tool are genuine interactive PDF form fields, such as text boxes and checkboxes, not drawn labels that only look like a field.
Will the edited text look exactly like the original?
The editor tries to preserve the source text’s color and font characteristics where the PDF exposes that information, but this is a best-effort overlay, so complex layouts may need a manual check.
